Known and Unknown

In a culture that places high value on celebrity, it’s refreshing to think about Enoch…remember him?

Perhaps not, but that’s what makes his story so amazing. With only a couple of quick mentions in scripture, there’s more unknown about him than known. Consider the two passages describing him:

“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not for God took him.”– Gen. 5:24 NKJV

“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death and was not found because God had taken him; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” – Hebrews 11:5 NKJV

Here’s the amazing part…the very next verse in Hebrews:

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” – Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

Let that sink in for a moment. Enoch pleased God so much that He was called home to heaven. However, it wasn’t based on his accomplishments; it was based on his faith. In other words, it wasn’t what he did FOR God; it was his walking WITH God.

Your life story may never be published or glamorized in popular culture; but does it really matter? History recorded very little about Enoch, but God knew everything…and that’s ALL that really mattered.
