The Revelation of Jesus Christ 11-16-25
Part 31 – Revelation 22:18-21
“Final Words”
Intro: In text messaging, there are many shortcut acronyms (that I only know a small percentage of!). One I do know is “btw” and today this portion of John’s letter is not only the final words, but a serious “by the way” in closing.
Given the weightiness of the words, there is much to consider in these very last verses.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.18-21
I. A Serious Warning (v.18-19)
(Note: We currently live in a soup of “unserious” speech.)
READ: Deuteronomy 4:2
(Note: A common practice of O.T./1st Century was reading the text aloud and someone helping listeners understand.)
A. Warning against deliberate alteration
(purposefully changing texts like J.W.’s and John 1:1)
B. Warning against disregarding the text
(knowing the truth but setting it aside “taking away”)
C. Warning against distortion of the text
(twisting the words into something other than truth)
D. Warning against dilution of the text
(watering down or adding to…syncretism)
II. The Final Invitation (v.20)
(testifying that these are all true words)
A. Invitation to heed all the words (v.7)
(if they’re true…then take them seriously)
B. Invitation to be confident in all the words
(If they’re true…then speak them confidently)
C. Invitation to share all the words
(If they’re true…then they’re worth sharing)
D. Invitation to pray forward-looking
(If they’re true…then pray with this reality in mind)
(“Even so, come”)
III. The Blessing (v.21)
(benediction-“bene” – well or good, “dicere” to speak)
(a final “Good word”)
A. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
(Remember-we walk in the graciousness of Christ)
B. Amen-affirming these words are true
(and final)
IV. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. The biggest take-away (in conclusion) is the general invitation posture of the letter. In other words, it’s not just a declaration of what will happen. From the letters to the churches to the details of future events, there are words of invitation to repent and receive God’s grace.
B. Discussion: What is your biggest take-away?

Part 30 – Revelation 22:12-17
“Six Final Comments”
Intro: Here at the end of the letter, there are multiple disclaimers. Some are quotes of the Lord Himself, some are statements/observations, and one is an open invitation to all that would respond.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.12-17
I. Jesus-“I am Coming Quickly” (v.12 also v.7)
A. “Quickly”-more to do with how than when-abruptness
(the unsaved will have no warning)
B. “My Reward” means it’s based on His value system
(He declares what is reward-worthy, not us/our ideas)
(His authority is absolute, based on verse 13)
C. “According to his work”-this means differentiation
(There will be an accounting/assessment)
II. Jesus-“I am the Alpha and Omega” (v.13)
A. “A-Z”-The full sum of letters/speech/knowledge
(all things communicable)
B. “Beginning and End”-everything starts/end with Him
(all we know as reality was made by Him)
C. “First and Last”-complete perfection
(He has always been present for every single thing)
(nothing has ever happened without His presence)
III. Jesus-“I have sent my Angel” (v.16)
A. “Testimony” – official collaboration
B. “The Root and Offspring of David”
(Fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy)
C. “The Bright and Morning Star”
(The future of all things brilliant and glorious)
IV. John-“Blessed are those who wash their robes” (v.14)
(some translations-“who do His commands”)
A. Restoration of the right to the tree
(as Adam and Eve had)
B. Welcomed to enter the city
(with loving welcome, not indifference)
V. John-“But those outside the city” (v.15)
A. Denial of the right to the tree
(they’re in the Lake of Fire at this time)
B. Picture of strong contrast to what’s in the city
C. Reinforcement of the finality of eternal choices
VI. John-The invitation is still open (v.17)
A. “They” (The Spirit and the bride) invite you
(They invite/welcome everyone willing)
B. “I” John as “one who hears” invites you
C. “Consider” your soul-deep needs of thirst
(Needing the water of life-Jesus John 4:13-14)
VII. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. Here at the end of the book we have clear declarations and clarity of purpose…invitation. These events ARE going to happen and all are invited to respond to the gospel message.
B. Discussion: Knowing the Revelation provides a sobering, clear presentation of events/invitation, how should this influence our conversations about spiritual matters among ourselves and those outside the faith?

Part 29 – Revelation 22:6-11
“True Words”
Intro: After the last details of the new Celestial City are provided, John records several statements that are given for clarity, encouragement and warning.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.6-11
I. This is For Real (v.6a)
A. This isn’t a dream
(some kind of ancient fictional fantasy)
B. There are no do-overs
(the events are final and exact)
II. This is for Certain (v.6b)
READ: Isaiah 46:8-10
A. “Remember the things of old”
(as sure as His prophecies of old)
B. God will bring it to pass
(the surety is based on God’s ability/will to do so)
(it’s “already done” in God’s view)
III. These Words are for Heeding (v.7)
A. “Knowing” and “keeping” are not the same things
(we can know a lot without actually doing)
B. “Blessed” is a state for those keeping
(supremely content like Matthew 5)
IV. Only God is to Worshiped (v.8-9)
A. Loss of perspective is a constant possibility
(we can easily get distracted/eyes off of God)
B. We are warned to remember the 1st Commandment
(a commandment that transcends time/settings)
V. Declare the Truth Regardless (v.10-11)
A. The truth is to be openly studied/discussed/preached
(even without having all of the answers)
B. Those continuing in their way receive matching results
(basically, keep doing so and find out)
VI. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. There is a sobering bluntness after all is revealed basically giving one last call for the contents to be taken serious.
B. Discussion: What do you think are the primary parts of the content to be communicated and taken serious (without going into a full study of the book)?

Part 28 – Revelation 21:9-22:5
“The New Jerusalem”
Intro: Last time we considered the overall picture of the new Celestial City, today we look at John’s record of the magnificent details.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.9-21
I. The Physical Nature of New Jerusalem (v.9-21)
A. Identity of the City
(Bride-again the marital imagery connected to the city)
(Location-high mountain echoes of Mount Zion)
(Jeru-“pointing to”-rendered often “city of”)
(Salem-“Complete wholeness, peace, shalaim, shalom)
B. Honoring the past
(12 gates with names of the twelve tribes of Israel)
(12 foundation stones with names of 12 apostles)
(Solid pearl-pearls are made by organic process)
(Jesus, “I am the gate.”, tied to the pearl process?)
C. Construction and Scale
(walls 200+ feet thick of pure transparency)
(walls 1500 miles in length (scholars disagree)
(walls 1500 miles high (scholars disagree)
(innumerable precious stones and gold-clear gold!)
READ: v.22-27
II. The Brilliant Glory of New Jerusalem (v.22-27)
A. God and Jesus will literally be present
(and we will be in a relationship of oneness)
B. In the Light-an ever-present connection/awareness
C. The glory of all things earthly will be surrendered
(no rankings or earthly statuses, all one in Christ)
D. There will be no shadow of any impurity)
READ: ch.22-v.1-5
III. The Life-giving Nature of New Jerusalem (ch.22v.1-5)
A. An ever-flowing river of pure soul-level refreshment
(complete satisfaction of our thirsts)
B. An ever-present garden of trees of life
(yielding fruits to nourish our heavenly bodies)
C. There will be no more curse
(all limitations/separations/difficulties will be gone)
D. This final state will be forever
(this is the final destination)
IV. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. What strikes me the most is the overall concept of “oneness”. In other words, the way “light” is described is not something of “physics” with directional light, it’s a total envelopment…will literally be living inside of God’s eternal light…forever.
B. Discussion: What part of this amazing description stands out to you most?

Part 27 – Revelation 21:1-8
“The Sum of it All”
Intro: At the end of the previous events (chapter 20) the moment arrives for the final act. This is the sum of all things presented in the Revelation. In other words, all the events shown to John lead up to this moment of a completely new beginning which will have no end.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.1-8
I. A New Heaven and New Earth (v.1)
(The old melted away-20:11)
A. Completely new and different
(meaning nothing is left of the old)
(everything we currently know of the physical world)
(including this earth, sun, moon, stars, etc)
B. No Sea at all
(very symbolic for the ancient world’s view of the sea)
(it meant chaotic danger, the fearful unknown)
II. A New Jerusalem (v.2-3)
A. This Jerusalem is made by God and not human hands
(His perfect design and for His perfect purposes)
B. A continuation of the marital imagery
(this represents a perfect “oneness” with God)
(there is no longer 1,000 year rankings, etc.)
III. A New Reality (v.4-8)
A. The mental/emotional reset/disconnect from the past (v.4)
(no sorrow, crying, pain-no more awareness of the old)
B. The end-all-be-all statements of God (v.5-6)
(“Behold I make all things new” was always the goal)
(“It is done” preparation is completed-looking forward)
(NOTE: contrast to “It is finished” which was an end)
C. The contrast for eternity (v.7-8)
(Overcomers-defined by I John 5:4-5-grace by faith)
(Those in second death-ones without faith in Jesus)
IV. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. This is THE “end-goal” of all things
(which answers our purpose questions now)
(what things are more or less important)
(redemption was/is/always will be about a relationship)
B. Discussion: How does this take-away affect your daily approach to living out your faith?

Part 26 – Revelation 20:11-15
“The Final Reckoning”
Intro: At the center of Satan’s deceptive suggestions are several common ingredients. One of them is the minimization (or elimination) of negative consequences. We currently live in a culture determined to create a reality without negative consequences for decisions, however, the scriptures reveal a different reality. It’s one where choices do matter…especially in matters of faith and the consequences are eternal.
At the end of the adjudication process started in chapter 5, a final reckoning takes place. There are no legal loopholes and the judgments are righteously final.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.11-15
I. The Court (v.11)
A. The Great White Throne
(Great-infinite dominion…nowhere beyond its reach)
(White-righteous justice…no sinful bias or influence)
(Throne-absolute authority…final word, no alternative)
B. Him “Who sits on it”
(In full glory, brilliance and splendor-like chapter 4)
(everything left not eternal melts like wax-2 Peter 3:7)
II. The Dead (v.12-13)
A. Small and great
(all of the unsaved, those without faith in God/Jesus)
B. The Book of Life is opened
(sole determinate of final destination)
(v.15, Luke 10:20, Philippians 4:3, Hebrews 12:23)
C. The “books” opened
(judged accordingly-v.13b)
(books determine details/location already determined)
(this suggests variations but no further info given)
D. Sea, Death, and Hell
(covers all “realms” of the dead)
III. The Sentences (v.14-15)
A. Death-cast into the Lake of Fire
(death “is a thing” that came with sin-I Cor. 15:26)
(it is not originally present or naturally of God)
(it is why we instinctively know it “shouldn’t be”)
B. Hell (Hades)-cast into the Lake of Fire
(all things current in/with Hell)
(Old Testament holding place of the unsaved)
(O.T./N.T. holding place of the unsaved w/ “the abyss”)
(tribulation holding place)
C. Those not in the Book of Life-cast into the Lake of Fire
(second death-eternal death)
IV. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. This is a sober reminder of the finite nature of this world
B. This is also a sober reminder of choices/consequences
C. Discussion: How do you see life application for this part?

(then the final “Day of the Lord” in Revelation 21)
B. The Earth will once again be in community with heaven
(we aren’t a “foreign” place, just separated/corrupted)

(even in that perfect and just environment)
B. The enemy’s current influence/schemes is a major issue
(we must remember that and walk humbly/wise)
C. Discussion: What are some of you take-aways?

B. The Word (given to us) is supreme
(His Word is true/life-giving)
(His Word is complete-Alpha and Omega)
(We are warned not to add/take-away-Rev. 22:18-19)
IV. Discussion: Knowing these things, how should the supremacy of the Word affect our daily life and conversations?

Intro: After the seven bowls of wrath, there is more imagery to illustrate the scope, scale, historical connections and significance of all that John is witnessing.
Let’s take a look:
READ: v.1-12
I. The Symbols of the Mystery
A. The Woman
(sitting on the waters-over multitudes (v.15)
(separate image before sitting on the beast)

(ancient prostitute imagery-colors/jewels/drunkenness)
(drunk with many abominations/martyrdom activities)
(Beast/Antichrist-counterfeit death/burial/resurrection)

Part 20 – Revelation 16:1-21
“The Seven Bowls of Judgement”
Intro: After the 2 summaries listed in chapters 14 and 15 the bowls are brought forward to start the final judgements. Even though there have been terrible global events already at this point, the beginning of the end will come suddenly and without warning. Peter reminded his readers (2 Peter ch.3)of several things:
- The Lord is not slack in His promises
- His timing is not like ours (day as a thousand years)
- He is patient to the end (not wanting any to perish)
- It will be like a thief in the night
Let’s take a look:
I. The Bowls of Wrath
(we’ll work through all of the bowls first)
A. Bowls 1-4 (these affect the natural world)
READ: 16:1-9
(marked by the beast, now marked with judgment)
(denial of water of any kind)
(denial of protection for the sun’s raging heat)
B. Bowls 5-6 (these affect the beast and his kingdom)
READ: 10-16
(Bowl 5-whole kingdom judged-but no repentance)
(Bowl 6-gathering and facilitation of final judgment)
C. Bowl 7 (this one affects both the natural world and people)
READ: 17-21
(the Earth completely and violently rearranged)
II. The Declarations
A. v.5-6 “You are Righteous, Eternal Judge”
(justice is served without reservation)
B. v.7 “You are El Shaddai”-True, Righteous Judge
(His judgements are pure and transparent)
C. v.9 & 10 “they did not repent”
(speaks of God’s patience-they could still repent)
D. v.15 “Like a thief”
(people still blinded after all that has happened already)
E. v.17 “It is done”
(completion of an old beginning)
III. The Winepress (v.19)
A. Reminder of the focus of it all-Babylon (rebellion)
(the true essence of these events-recurring theme)
B. Rebellion is thoroughly dealt with
(systematically and until finished)
C. Rebellion is dealt with righteously
(no short cuts taken-God’s standard upheld)
(no short cuts on the cross-God’s standard upheld)
IV. Conclusion/Take-away/Discussion
A. Peter also included a “therefore” in 2 Peter ch.3
(be diligent to be peaceful and blameless)
(God will deal with evil just as promised)
B. Question: What are your thoughts about the two times the scripture records, “they did not repent or give glory to God”?
The Revelation of Jesus Christ 8-17-25
Part 19 – Revelation 15:1-8
“The Judgements and Wrath of God”
Intro: After the summary of themes given in chapter 14, chapter 15 provides a condensed summary of the judgement and wrath of God coming in the final phase with the seven bowls.
Let’s take a look:
READ: 15:1-8
I. Another Sign in Heaven (v.1)
A. Great and marvelous
(not a simplistic picture-why “something like” is used)
B. “Plagues” – original word is significant
(can have multiple meanings/uses)
(15:1 means “a sudden hit, blow, strike”)
(“bowl” is a shallow vessel-pours out quick)
C. “Wrath is complete”
(the coming, thorough process of the winepress-14:19)
II. The Sea of Glass (v.2)
(something like a Sea of Glass)
A. The tribulation saints’ victories
(according to C. Swindoll…)
(over the beast-political persecution)
(over the image-religious persecution)
(over the mark-economic persecution)
B. The modern connection
(there is a mild version of all three now)
(the enemy wants to bring it now but is restrained)
(there are some places in the spirit of that already)
C. The songs of the tribulation saints
(of Moses-Ex.15/32-God’s judgement/deliverance)
(of the Lamb in v.3-4-parallel themes/truths)
III. The Temple of Heaven (v.5-8)
A. A heavenly reality (the sanctuary of God)
(with the testimony-the eternal gospel story)
(all points of the story relevant/needing addressed)
(Jesus fulfilled each point-worthy to take the scroll)
B. Significance of the smoke
(Isaiah vision/calling imagery-ch.6)
(censors in Tabernacle/Temple worship/protocol)
(Paul’s use of the imagery in 2 Cor. 2:12-17)
C. Completeness of “seven”
(16:17 contains the phrase, “it is done”)
(it is going to be swift, severe, and complete)
IV. Conclusion/Take-aways/Discussion
A. We should give gratitude for the pouring out of God’s wrath on Jesus for us
(the “completeness” required that event)
(the severity reveals the scope of “the cup”)
B. We should give glory to Him now, because all of this is true NOW-(the words spoken in chapter 15).
C. Question: In your opinion, what part of this chapter should impact our daily walk of faith the most?

“A Summary Pause”
Intro: After the introduction of the two beasts, there is somewhat of a pause and summary of the themes of the Tribulation (not a chronological continuation of chapter 13). It begins with a connection to the Old Testament and moves into several foundational truths.
Let’s take a look:
READ: 14:1-5
I. The Lamb on Mount Zion (v.1-5)
A. The significance of the Victorious Lamb (v.1)
(an image dense with prophecy fulfilment/authority)
B. The significance of the “firstfruits”
(a clear affirmation of the historical promise/plan)
(unique relationship/exclusive new song)
READ: 14:6-13
II. The Three Angelic Proclamations (v.6-13)
A. The Everlasting Gospel (v.6)
(what it is…a bold statement-v.7)
(what it is not…a apologetic invite)
(an overarching message…Abraham & faith)
(The Lamb facilitates redemptive validity of saving faith)
B. “Fallen, fallen” status of Babylon (v.8)
(current/future state of evil/our enemy(ies))
(we operate in/from a position of victory)
READ: 14:14-16
III. The Harvest of the Son of Man (v.14-16)
A. The imagery of the “Son of Man”
(cloud imagery related to wilderness/temple/Shekinah)
B. Significance of the word rendered as “ripe” (v.15)
(original means overripe, showing God’s patience)
READ: 14:17-20
IV. The Harvest of the Angel (v.17-20)
A. Significance of “ripe” in v.18
(original means prime/perfect timing)
(it may feel like too late, but it’s His perfect timing)
B. Significance of the “winepress” and the results (v.19-20)
(symbolic of God’s thorough dealing with rebellion)
(imagery is a familiar ancient word-picture)
(it’s inconsistent to make this line specifically literal)
V. Conclusion/Take-aways/Discussion
A. We see (again) God’s promises fulfilled (to the letter).
B. We see the essence of the gospel (spoken from heaven).
(with a reminder of victory/Babylon’s defeated status)
C. We see the grace/perfection of God in His timing (ripe).
D. Discussion Question: Which of these three are most interesting and why?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 8-3-25
Part 17 – Revelation 13:1-18
“The Beasts”
Intro: At this point the beast and the false prophet arrive on the scene. There are MANY ideas about the specifics of this chapter, but we will consider the text and see what it reveals.
Let’s take a look:
READ: 13:1-10
I. The Beast from the Sea-The Antichrist (v.1-10)
A. (v.2) He is empowered by Satan/given throne/authority
(the bounds of restraint are temporarily lifted-v.7)
(even ability to overcome the saints will be given)
B. (v.2) The Daniel connection in Daniel chapter 2
(Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of an image…)
(Gold-Babylonian kingdom)
(Silver-Medo-Persian kingdom)
(Bronze-Greek kingdom)
(Iron-Roman kingdom)
(Iron/clay-divided kingdom, elements left to today)
(shows providential significance of western civilization)
C. (v.2) The Daniel connection in Daniel chapter 7
(Daniel’s vision of the four beasts)
(Lion-Babylon
(Bear-Medo-Persia
(Leopard-Greece
(Terrible beast with teeth of iron-Rome)
(Heads/horns added together equals seven and ten)
D. (v.4) The 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 connection
(This reveals who is behind the beast and why)
(Satan has always wanted to be worshipped)
E. The context of the midpoint of the tribulation
(not the same world as now-already cataclysmic events)
(death on a large scale and suffering has happened)
(v.9-10-tribulation saints will be captured and/or killed)
(both are called to persevere and have faith-v.10)
Read: 13:11-18
II. The Beast from the Earth-The False Prophet (v.11-18)
(reference used in Revelation 19:20, 20:10)
A. Third member of the “unholy trinity”
(Satan’s counterfeit mimicry)
B. Authority extended to him as the prophet “salesman”
(performing signs and wonders)
C. He will lead and encourage worship of the beast
(which ultimately goes to Satan)
D. Creates and forces the mark onto the populace
(system built to keep those without from buying/selling)
(number six represents man-sixth day)
(also represents incompleteness-short of seven)
E. Coordinates persecution and martyrdom of the saints
III. The Take-aways
A. The spirit of anti-Christ or anti-God has been here since Cain killed Abel/the flood/the tower, etc. (but retrained).
B. Perseverance and faith are part of the call to follow back then and now.
READ: 2 Thessalonians 2:15
C. Paul described it this way, we are to “stand fast” on and “hold to” what we know is true based on the scriptures.
IV. Conclusion/Discussion
Question: What daily-life scenarios/issues come to mind regarding the call for us to “stand fast” and “hold on”?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 7-27-25
Part 16 – Revelation 12:1-17
“Our Enemy Exposed”
Intro: There is such a thing as a “friendly rivalry” (personal story), but the scriptures present a picture of our spiritual enemy as one who deeply hates us (not one you can otherwise “get along with”when you’re not at odds). His demise is clearly articulated and it’s beneficial for us to be reminded of the scope of this reality.
Let’s take a look:
READ: 12:1-6
I. The Sign of the Woman, Child, and Dragon (v.1-6)
(verses 1-5)
A. The Woman represents Israel
(includes Messianic prophecy/expectations/Gospels)
(does not include the era of the Church)
B. The Child represents Jesus (v.5)
(rule with a rod of iron/caught up to God/His throne)
(images matching previous chapters of His presence)
C. Dragon is specifically identified as Satan in v.9
(heads, horns, diadems-evil hierarchy past/present)
D. The “third of the stars” represents a third of the angels
(likely when Satan fell (Luke 10:18)-not the event of v.7-12)
(verse 6)
E. The woman fleeing/kept safe/fed (1260 days)
(Jews specifically, second half of the Tribulation)
(144,000 for sure, other Jewish individuals is unclear)
Read: v.7-12
II. The War in Heaven (v.7-12)
A. Many theories about when this has/will happen
(I consider only two worth serious consideration)
(at the beginning (Rapture) or midpoint of Tribulation)
(I understand it to be the midpoint-v.10 fits with 11:15)
B. Either point means Satan currently has heavenly access
(currently making accusations against us before God)
C. (v.11)-statement of victory’s specific sources
(Blood of the Lamb-Law’s demands/payment fulfilled)
(word of our testimony in Jesus– faith/trust in Him)
(no mention of any other source…period)
D. (v.12)-warning/reason of the second half’s intensity
(Satan repeatedly defeated and fury turned onto earth)
READ: 13-17
III. The Persecution of the Woman (v.13-17)
A. Persecution against Israel (the Woman) intensifies
B. The Woman protected/carried away on “eagles wings”
(O.T. reference to Egypt/Daniel prophecy)
(How? Who? Where? We don’t know)
C. (v.14) Time, Times, Half-time
(time = 1yr., times = 2 yrs., half-time = 6 months)
(also the same phrase as Daniel 7:25)
D. (v.15) flood-O.T. language for violent war wrath
(like prediction of Jerusalem’s destruction-Dan. 9:26)
E. (v.16) “the earth helped”
(perhaps natural events helping defend the Woman)
(at this point the anger is turned onto “the offspring”)
F. “The offspring” are the Tribulation saints
(those keeping the commandments/testimony of Jesus)
(this is the large number coming out of the Tribulation)
(all nations/people/languages/ethnicities)
IV. Take-aways
A. Our enemy is defeated but formidable.
B. Our victory is sure but only from the blood of the Lamb and our testimony of faith is Jesus.
C. God does everything righteously (even allows for questions/accusations) meaning thorough adjudication.
D. God always keeps His promises (the Woman, Saints, etc.).
V. Conclusion
Discussion: Which of the take-aways is most interesting to you and why?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 7-20-25
Part 15 – Revelation 11:15-11:19
“Trumpet 7”
Intro: After the pause between trumpet six and seven, there is a major demarcation in the narrative of what is to come next with the sounding of trumpet seven. This is the beginning of the second 3 ½ years of the tribulation and the final events. Let’s take a look:
READ: 11:15-19
I. The Seventh Trumpet (v.15)
A. The signaling of events in 11:15-20:15
(final 3 ½ years (+1,000 years) period of judgement)
B. Thorough adjudication of all sin/rebellion/death/hell
(symbolism of everything Babylon related)
II. The Transfer of the Kingdom (v.15)
A. Full authority is already the Lord’s (Matthew 28:18)
(judicial aspect was settled with the cross/resurrection)
(fulfillment of the Law, not subverting or minimizing it)
(new spiritual kingdom already established)
B. New literal, physical kingdom to begin
(announcement of process to take over possession)
(spoken in “past tense” illustrates the surety of it)
(fulfillment of “Your kingdom come on earth”)
(fulfillment of Psalm 2:8-9, Rev. 2:27)
(clarified even further with the Child in Rev. 12:5)
III. The Worship and Statements of the Elders (v.16-17)
A. v.17-The One (connection to the Shema-Deut. 6:4)
(All powerful)
(Who was, is and is to come-eternally God)
B. The Nations
(those then currently living/in-charge (Babylon))
(the spirit of “the nations” (Babylon) across history)
C. The Dead
(all unredeemed who are dead/will be before it’s over)
D. The Saints
(all believers throughout history, including Tribulation)
IV. The Temple of God in Heaven (v.19)
A. Scholarly disagreement over whether it’s real or symbolic
(not referred to as a “sign”, left to assume it’s real)
B. “The ark of the covenant” was seen
(likely a perfect heavenly version not the original)
(indicates eternal importance of the Law/mercy seat)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the “thoroughness” of His adjudication/judgement of all things sin-related (Babylon)?

Part 14 – Revelation 10:1-11:14
“Between Trumpets 6 & 7”
Intro: In between the sounding of trumpet 6 and 7, there is a pause where John sees multiple events. They all reveal God’s superiority at each stage and connections to ancient prophecies being fulfilled.
Let’s take a look at the first event:
READ: 10:1-7
I. The Coming of the Mighty Angel From Heaven (v.1-7)
A. Superior to the four angels from the Euphrates (9:13-21)
(overwhelming visuals of v.1)
(whatever is of heaven is/will be superior…always)
B. Land/Sea symbolizes whole earth authority (v.2)
(on authority from the One who made it all-v.6)
C. Ancient mysteries are to be revealed (Apocalypse) (v.7)
(the overarching connection of the dots)
(a key reminder that all scripture is interconnected)
Now the second event:
READ: 10:8-11
II. The Little Book (v.8-11)
A. Echo of event with Ezekiel chapters 2-3
(Ezekiel prophesying during Babylonian captivity)
(Ezekiel heavenly scene similar-timeless)
(Babylon symbolic throughout the narrative)
B. “Eating the book” is to fully receive/digest the words
(the truth is sweet but the results are bitter)
C. John is commissioned again for the last parts (v.11)
And the third event:
READ: 11:1-6
III. The Coming of the Two Witnesses (v.1-6)
A. Temple of God to be built in Jerusalem (v.1)
(exact details of timeline are much debated)
B. The Two witnesses are the ones mentioned in Zech. 4:14
(we do not know their names/personal identity)
(people claiming to know are only speculating)
C. Their length of testifying will be 3 ½ years (v.3)
(likely the first 3 ½ years)
D. They will have power like Old Testament prophets
(power over natural world/protected from harm)
And the fourth event:
READ: 11:7-14
IV. The Death/Resurrection of the Two Witnesses (v.7-14)
A. First mention of the beast coming from the pit
B. God allows them to be murdered
(left of the street of Jerusalem-“Sodom/Egypt” v.8)
(all people celebrate because of their hatred of them)
(picture of determined rebellion against God/the truth)
C. God brings them back to life
(earthquake/fear causes them to acknowledge God)
(no indication their acknowledgement is repentance)
(this is likely the close of the first half of the tribulation v.14)
V. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the connections to Old Testament events/prophecies?

Part 13 – Revelation 8:7-9:21
“Trumpets 1-6”
Intro: As we move from the seals to the trumpets, the intensity will steadily increase…sometime greatly. It’s important to remember that God could choose to judge the world in a moment and not with a process as He does/will do. Systematically, He will deal with all aspects of sin while also showing mercy and grace in the process…up to the end.
Let’s take a look at the first four trumpets:
READ: 8:7-13
I. Trumpets 1-4 (v.7-13)
Note: We don’t know for certain the specific details
A. Trumpet 1 – straight forward (additional scarcity)
B. Trumpet 2 – “like a great burning mountain” into the sea
(violent impact event wrecking ships/wildlife/tsunamis)
(perhaps altering global systems and patterns)
C. Trumpet 3 – “burning like a torch”
(perhaps a nuclear explosion or )
(possible radiation making water bitter/deadly)
D. Trumpet 4 – a 1/3 “darkening” of the light
(all three shine or reflect from space)
(perhaps it’s blocked light, but also possibly weakened)
Now the fifth trumpet:
READ: 9:1-12
II. Trumpet 5 – The Swarm from the Abyss (v.1-12)
A. Locusts- but not like the traditional insects
(likely demonic creatures-not eating just tormenting people)
B. Commanded by a leader from the abyss
(clue about the nature of the abyss)
(clue about the order of the spiritual world)
C. Limited in both time and scope
(evidence of God’s mercy)
(evidence of what God has/does protect us from now)
(this is the enemy’s 100% desire…to torment/destroy)
And the now the sixth trumpet:
READ: 9:13-21
III. Trumpet 6 – The Four Angels of Destruction (v.13-21)
A. Providential to the day/hour
B. 200 million army for violent destruction (1/3 population)
C. No repentance-even with the violent judgement (v.20-21)
(continued resistance-pattern throughout history)
D. Doubled down on their own preferences/creations/ideas
(foreshadowing/connection to the spirit of Babylon)
(a lesson about the stubborn, fallen, human nature)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the reaction of those who “do not repent” and how does it inform us regarding people now?

Part 12 – Revelation 7:1-8:6
“Seal 7-The Faithfulness of God”
Intro: After the first six seals are opened, there is a pause and momentary shift to focus on two groups of people before the seventh is opened. Both events reflect the faithfulness of God along with the results of the seventh.
Let’s take a look at the first part:
READ: 7:1-8
I. The Faithfulness of God and the 144,000
Note: “Sealed”-is the same word used in Eph. 1:13, 4:30
A. God intervenes at just the right time (holding the winds)
(God’s timing is always perfect and purposeful)
B. God offers mercy and grace to the ones being sealed
(a gift of the Lord by His own choice)
C. God keeps His promises and honors His people
(echoes all of the promises to Abraham, etc.)
(and they will give testimony of the Messiah)
Now the next part:
READ: 7:9-17
II. The Faithfulness of God and the Tribulation Saints
A. God loves the world even in judgement (even then)
(consistent throughout history)
B. God extends the offer to all people (even then)
(of all tribes, people, nations, tongues)
C. God honors their martyrdom with a special role
(eternally close to His throne)
And the now the final part:
READ: 8:1-6
III. The Faithfulness of God and the Seventh Seal
A. God hears all of our prayers
(genuine prayer is never wasted time)
B. God preserves our prayers for this moment
(it’s all part of the bigger picture, our prayers matter)
C. God combines our prayers with incense/a sweet aroma
(repentance/worship/praise/petitions/thanks/love)
D. God will fully adjudicate all of our requests
(all will be finalized according to His will-even justice)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on these events as part of God’s “big picture” plan?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 6-22-25
Part 11 – Revelation 6:1-17 “Seals 1-6”
Intro: After the majestic scenes God’s throne and The Lamb, the scroll is taken and the seals opened. Today, we will look at the first 6 and it’s important to note that we are viewing this moment as post-rapture:
NOTE: There are 3 general views of the rapture/tribulation.
BRIEF EXPLANATION: (Pre/Mid/Post Tribulation)
Let’s take a look at what happens:
READ: 6:1-17
I. Seals 1-6 (v.1-15)
A. 1st Seal-White Horse
(a bow with no arrows, victory without war)
(a crown of victory, not royalty/sovereign authority)
(this results in a “false peace”-temporary)
B. 2nd Seal-Red Horse
(takes peace away brought by white horse)
(brings sword of war-not sword of truth as in 19:15)
C. 3rd Seal-Black Horse
(scarcity and inflation-8-16x prices-wheat/barley)
(oil/wine left alone/luxuries-no money for them)
D. 4th Seal-Pale Horse (sickly yellowish green color)
(Death-physical death)
(Hades (hell)-soul capture)
(1/4 of the world population)
E. 5th Seal-Souls of the Martyrs
(those in a holding pattern from/during the Tribulation)
(their number is yet to be completed)
(they are the same ones as 7:9-17)
F. 6th Seal-Severe Global Earthquake
(resulting in massive volcanic eruptions)
(ash/soot darkening the sun)
(ash soot discoloring the moon)
(fiery volcanic debris as “stars falling to the earth”)
(geography radically altered, mountains/islands)
II. Responses of the People (v.16-17)
A. Acknowledgement of God on the throne/Lamb of God
(Him who sits on the throne/wrath of the Lamb)
B. Acknowledgement of their frailty/mortality
(Who is able to stand?…only the redeemed)
III. Take-aways from Seals 1-6
A. God’s righteous judgement shows a long pattern of grace
(even in this setting people can still choose salvation)
B. Everyone will eventually know the truth
(regardless of what people say/believe now)
C. Grace is offered to anyone willing to believe now
(today is the day of salvation-2 Corinthians 6:2)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on reconciling the grace/love of God with this impending judgement?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 6-15-25
Part 10 – Revelation 5:1-14 “The Appearance of the Lamb”
Intro: At this point of the vision after John saw the Father on His throne, a question is loudly asked to point out the worthiness of the Lamb, The King of Kings and to establish the legitimacy of all that was about to happen next.
Let’s take a look:
READ: 5:1-14
I. The Perfection of the Lamb (v.6)
A. Symbolism before transitioning into Him in verse 7
B. Seven in the Biblical number of perfection
*C. Perfect Power (7 horns) – He is omnipotent
*D. Perfect Wisdom (7 eyes) – He is omniscient
*E. Perfect Presence (7 spirits) – He is omnipresent (Is. 7:2)
(*C,D,E taken from Warren Wiersbe’s comments)
II. The Worthiness of the Lamb
(Note: worthy mentioned 4x)
A. The scroll-like 1st century legal documents w/cover/seals
(both sides covered in writing indicates complete)
(no room for additional words, addendums)
B. Who is worthy?
(“in heaven”, “on earth”, “under the earth”)
(created heavenly beings, humans alive or dead)
C. The Lamb is worthy!
(He is “of heaven”-eternal/fully God)
(He is “of the earth” – born of a virgin/fully human)
(He is also from “under the earth” slain/resurrected)
(He is the Root of David-source/producer of David)
(He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah-after/of David)
(He is the voluntary blood sacrifice/Redeemer)
(He is the giver of salvation to all that respond)
(He is the King over the Kingdom/His inheritance)
(He is the Restorer of our original inheritance in Him)
III. The Worship of the Lamb
A. Acknowledgments of the true sobering reality
(v.9-10,12,13-14)
B. Offering of “The Prayers of the Saints” as incense v.8
(All the heartfelt prayers offered by believers)
(for mercy, forgiveness, provision, justice, etc.)
C. Father/Son separate but One together v.13
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What is the most interesting part of this moment/revealing of the Lamb to you and why?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 6-8-25
Part 9 – Revelation 4:1-11 “The Throne Room”
Intro: Moving into chapter 4 is the point where we begin to see what the Lord called “things which will take place after this” (the third section of the “divine outline”). In similar fashion to Isaiah and Ezekiel, John was given a personal invitation to witness the reality of heaven (before death). Not only did they get the personal benefits, they communicated to the rest of us what they experienced.
It is worth noting that many hundreds of years had passed between the Old Testament encounters and John’s, but much of what he saw was the same (timeless and eternal).
Let’s take a look:
READ: 4:1-11
I. What John Witnessed
A. God on the throne (One)
(appearance of precious stones, rainbow, lightning)
B. An open door
(continued symbol of open/closed doors)
C. Twenty-Four Elders
(white robes, gold crowns)
D. Seven lamps of fire
(Seven Spirits of God)
E. Four Living Creatures (beasts)
(different faces, and speaking words)
II. Specifics to Consider
A. In the Spirit (v.2)
(“come up here”-going to the 3rd heaven-2 Cor. 12:2)
(Paul’s’ use of caught up for himself and rapture)
(1st heaven-atmosphere, sky, etc.)
(2nd heaven-space, galaxy, universe)
(3rd heaven-where God is)
B. One-The Father
(the Lamb, Jesus will step forward in chapter 5)
(no specific detail of Him, appearances like…)
(Jesus said no one has seen the Father John 6:46)
C. Seven Lamps of Fire-Seven Spirits of God
(Sevenfold Spirit- Isaiah 11:2)
(Seven symbolizing completeness)
(#1 Spirit of the Lord)
(#2 Spirit of wisdom)
(#3 Spirit of understanding)
(#4 Spirit of counsel)
(#5 Spirit of might-or strength)
(#6 Spirit of knowledge)
(#7 Spirit of fear of the Lord)
(NOTE: this is the full ministry Jesus spoke of in John 16)
D. The Elders
(there are at least 13 theories about who they are)
(regardless, they worship and acknowledge God)
E. Four Living Creatures
(multi-function/role and meanings)
(there is no definitive explanation, however…)
(Cherubim-guardians, perhaps for safety of people)
(four faces, perhaps reflecting Genesis 9:9-10…)
(God’s covenant with humans, birds, cattle, beasts)
F. The words spoken
(Holy x3)
(All-powerful)
(Eternal)
(Creator)
(Worthy of all glory, honor, power)
III. The Key Take-aways
A. The attitude of worship
(total reverence for/focus on/acknowledgement of God)
(not everything called worship is actually worship)
B. The eternal nature of what John saw
(there is a timelessness/consistency to ultimate reality)
C. The heavenly order
(He is a God of order-created/creates with order)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: How should this reality affect our daily walk with the Lord?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 6-1-25
Part 8 – Revelation 3:14-22 “To the Church at Laodicea”
Intro: In the first 5 letters (to churches), there are varying amounts of commendation, rebuke and calls for action and repentance. In the sixth letter (to the believers at Philadelphia) there was only commendation and encouragement. For the last of the letters (Laodicea) there are no commendations, but with the rebukes are words of gracious love.
About the City:
- Laodicea was a major trade and banking center positioned on the route to the East.
- After the earthquake in A.D. 60, the city rebuilt without Rome’s help (reputation of self-sufficiency)
- There was no water source in the city, so it was brought 6 miles by aqueduct which resulted in water that was neither refreshing like nearby Colossae or healing like the hot springs of nearby Hieropolis.
- The city was known for a strong medical community and specifically the production of a healing eye salve
Let’s take a look at Jesus’ words:
READ verses 14-22
I. The Lord’s Title (v.14b)
A. “The Amen” – Hebrew word used to validate and affirm
(rendered as “verily” or “truly” in Jesus’ teachings)
(He is the embodiment of verified truth)
B. “Faithful and True Witness” – Absolute true testimony
(corroborating what was, what is, and what will be)
C. “Beginning of the creation of God” – The original source
(the uncaused cause-therefore sovereign authority)
II. The Lord’s Rebukes (v.15-17)
(I know your works…all 7x)
A. You are lukewarm (like the city water)
(unpleasant-not spiritually refreshing/healing)
(You make me sick…)
B. You consider yourselves rich and self-sufficient
But you are:
(wretched-unlikeable, not spiritually peaceful)
(miserable-deeply unhappy, not spiritually content)
(poor-without any eternal wealth)
(blind-no spiritual vision or discernment)
(naked-spiritually shameful)
III. The Lord’s Call to Action (v.18-19)
A. Repent – realize your true state
(confess your sins and do differently)
B. Seek treasure from the Lord:
(pure gold-abiding peace/contentment/eternal wealth)
(white garments-heavenly coverings of righteousness)
(healing eye salve-spiritual sight/discernment/wisdom)
IV. The Lord’s Encouragement (v.19-21)
A. He loved them (and us) (v.19)
(which he said was why He was correcting them)
B. He offered to come in and dine
(the picture of spending quality time together)
C. He promised rewards
(in a glorious future)
V. Conclusion
Discussion: In what ways do you see the same contrast today between assumptions of wealth/self-sufficiency and the Lord’s assessments/instructions?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 5-25-25
Part 7 – Revelation 3:7-13 “To the Church at Philadelphia”
Intro: In the previous 5 letters (to churches), there are varying amounts of commendation, rebuke and calls for action and repentance. However, for the believers at Philadelphia, there was only commendation and encouragement. They are considered to be one of the smallest of the fellowships and lived in a region defined by a massive earthquake some years before.
NOTE: After the destruction of the area, Tiberias Caesar financially helped the city and it had been renamed (during this time) to “Neocaesarea” (given a new name).
Let’s take a look:
READ verses 7-13
I. The Lord’s Commendations (v.8, 10a)
(I know your works…all 7x)
A. The Lord considered them good stewards of the gospel
(He created “an open door” for ministry)
(echo of the symbolism of Isaiah 22:15-25)
(against temple manager Shebna/and for Eliakim)
(sovereignty of God over His house then/church now)
(God ordained influence/impact for eternity)
B. The Lord knew they had kept His word
(held the scripture up as their standard)
C. The Lord knew they had not denied His name
(no compromise for acceptance or livelihood)
D. The Lord knew they had persevered (v.10)
(the daily pressure to conform (Romans 12:1-2)
II. The Lord’s Promises (v.9-12)
A. To deal with their enemies (bring them low) (v.9)
(know that I have loved you)
B. To keep them from the Tribulation (v.10)
(future tense-whole world, those on the earth)
C. To protect their crowns (v.11)
(heavenly recognition of their faithfulness)
D. To make them a pillar (“in the temple of My God”-v.12)
(no physical temple anymore but honored that way)
(will withstand time/not be destroyed by earthquakes)
E. To give them a new name x3 (v.12)
(echoing name change for Philadelphia)
(the name of My God-the sovereign Creator)
(the name of the city of My God-the sovereign city)
(Christ’s new name-the sovereign King)
III. Conclusion
Discussion: What parts of the Lord’s comments to the church at Philadelphia encourage you the most?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 5-18-25
Part 6 – Revelation 3:1-6 “To the Church at Sardis”
Intro: In one of the theme parks, there is an area with movie set facades. Not only are there building fronts with steps, doors, windows, etc., there is a skyline built to scale to give the illusion of depth. It feels as if you could walk up to a door and enter an urban apartment with all the furnishings, except there’s nothing on the other side (just framing and support structure).
In many ways, the church at Sardis is similar, let’s take a look:
READ verses 1-6
NOTE: In the previous churches, there are commendations, for Sardis, there are none.
I. The Lord’s Call Out (v.1)
(I know your works…all 7x)
A. The Lord knew their reputation of being spiritually alive
(they gave the impression of vibrancy, health, growth)
B. The Lord diagnosed them as being spiritually dead
(spiritual room temperature, same as the culture)
(no spiritual vibrancy, health, power or growth)
II. The Lord’s Call to Action (v.3a)
A. Remember what you received and heard
B. Hold fast to it (commit to going back to the basics)
C. Repent-acknowledge the sin and do different
III. The Lord’s Warning (v.3b
Without watchfulness (diligence)
A. “I will come like a thief”
(Stealthy and unannounced)
B. Even the leaders will not know
(of the candle being removed)
IV. The Lord’s Encouragement to Overcome (v.4-6)
(“to him who overcomes”…all 7x)
A. Promise 1 – Overcomers “shall walk with Me” (v.4)
(the faithful, they are worthy)
B. Promise 2 – Overcomers will be “clothed in white” (v.5)
(robes are washed in His blood-similar to 7:14)
C. Promise 3 – Overcomers will not be blotted out (v.5)
(from the Book of Life, which evidently starts with all)
(judgment perhaps removes certain names)
(eventually there is the Lamb’s Book of Life 21:27)
D. Promise 4 – Overcomers’ names will be confessed (v.5)
(in the presence of God and the angels)
V. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the appearance of spiritual vibrancy but a diagnosis of spiritually “dead”?

Part 5 – Revelation 2:18-29 “To the Church at Thyatira”
Intro: Similar to Pergamum, the church at Thyatira had issues with specific people in the fellowship. Jesus gives a clear message regarding what was good and what needed to be addressed, while also including some strong warnings.
NOTE: The region of Thyatira was a working-class city with many first-century trades being represented such as the dying industry and metal working. The Lord’s description of Himself perhaps reflects His purity/perfection in light of their context of metal working/fabrication.
Let’s take a look:
READ verses 18-29
I. The Lord’s Commendations (v.19)
(I know your works…all 7x)
A. The Lord knew their love
(they had a spirit of love among them)
B. The Lord knew their service
(they had a generally good serving attitude)
C. The Lord knew their patience
(they had an overall disposition of tolerance)
D. The knew those had increased
(He was aware of their status all along)
II. The Lord’s Rebuke (v.20)
(Similar to Pergamum)
A. He named the allowance of false doctrine being taught
(specifically Jezebel, probably not her given name)
B. He named the allowance of immorality being practiced
(worldly lifestyles that mirrored the culture)
(perhaps for good standing with the local trade guilds)
III. The Lord’s Warning (v.21-23)
A. Jezebel’s refusal to repent
(the Lord gave her time)
B. Without repentance, consequences are coming
(her, those with her, and her family)
C. The greater group should also be aware/take heed
(“I will give to each…according to your works”-v.23b)
IV. The Lord’s Encouragement to Overcome (v.24-29)
(“to him who overcomes”…all 7x)
A. “Hold fast what you have” (v.25)
(just mentioned doctrine…doctrine matters -v.24)
B. Overcomers will be part of the new kingdom order
(power over the nations, Psalm quote)
C. The pure morning star light will extend to overcomers
(also mentioned in 22:16)
V. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the ‘Jezebel’ warnings?

A. They had allowed the teaching of false doctrine
(doctrine of Balaam and Nicolaitans)
B. They had allowed the practice of immorality
(worldly lifestyles that mirrored the culture)
III. The Lord’s Call to Action (v.16)
(Pergamum only)
A. Call to repentance
(acknowledge/turn from the current status quo)
B. Call to be aware and remember the “or else”
(The Lord would take of business Himself)
(“will fight against them with the sword of My mouth”)

(representing either a yes vote or event entrance)
(the name is personal and unique to each)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the call to action for the church at Pergamum?

Part 3 – Revelation 2:1-7 “To the Church at Ephesus”
Intro: In most organizations, it’s a common occurrence for “the boss” to evaluate what’s going on with departments, teams, etc. and offer constructive feedback. In chapters 2-3 we have a record of Jesus’ words sent to seven real pastors/churches. Each one has a history, people, and context unique to them. The feedback they receive is also unique, and when considered as a whole, we begin to see a picture of overall expectations. It begins with Ephesus (the church closest to John’s location and his “home church”.
Let’s take a look:
READ verses 1-7
I. The Lord’s Commendations (v.2-3,6)
A. Their good works and labor (v.2)
(general efforts ‘works’-even when difficult ‘labor’)
B. Their endurance and patience in challenges (v.3)
(context of Ephesus/social & economic difficulties)
C. Their diligence to stand for the truth (v.2,6)
(testing those claiming spiritual revelation)
(rebuking those teaching false doctrine-Nicolaitans)
II. The Lord’s Rebuke (v.4-5)
A. “You have left your first love” (v.4)
(the spirit love in relationship with Christ)
(the spirit of love in Christ to others)
B. Remember “from where you have fallen”
(specifics of the “first love” according to Paul)
Ephesians:
1:4-He chose us to be in Him in love
2:4 He chose us because of His love
3:17 We are to be rooted and grounded in love
3:18-19 That we may know/comprehend the fullness
of the love of Christ beyond understanding
4:2 bearing with one another in love (lowly, gentle)
4:15 speaking truth in love
4:16 to be edified in love
5:25,28,33 husbands love your wives as Jesus loves
III. The Lord’s Call to Action (v.5)
A. Call to repentance
(acknowledge/turn from the current status quo)
B. Call to “do the first works”
(their actions were good works done “in Christ”)
(but, they’re even better done in the love of Christ)
IV. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the good versus best and why do we fall short sometimes of “the best”?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 4-20-25
Part 2 – Revelation 1:9-20 “The Glorified Risen King”
Intro: He is risen! As we celebrate Resurrection Sunday, we focus on the second parallel mentioned last week:
Easter Sunday is the revealing of the risen King to the people…and chapter one of the Revelation is the revealing of the Glorified Risen King of Kings to John/us.
Let’s take a look at verses 9-20:
READ verses 1-8
The Witness to the Glorified Risen King (v.9-10, 17)
A. John was a witness with a long history with Jesus
(ministry, transfiguration, resurrection, ascension)
(Acts 2, miracles of all kinds, 90+ year old Elder)
(last of the 12, but made humble reference to himself)
B. John was a witness who endured much over the years
(“tribulation” or difficulty, and “patience” or endurance)
C. John was a witness who was overwhelmed with fear
(even with history, his response was like the prophets)
II. The Appearance of the Glorified Risen King (v.11-16)
A. He is the embodiment of the “Shekinah Glory” (v.13-16)
(not in the text, but coined by O.T. rabbis)
(regarding the wilderness, Holy of Holies, etc.)
B. He is the promised Son of Man (v.13)
(READ Daniel 7:13-14 prophecy)
C. He is the speaker of definitive words (v.16)
(His words are like razor words)
(His words started it all and will end it all)
III. The Message of the Glorified Risen King (v.18-20)
(v.19 outline previously discussed)
A. His message is reassuring (v.17)
(“Do not be afraid” reflects seeing the full reality)
(this is true confidence beyond casual familiarity)
B. His message is authoritative (v.18)
(He defeated all of what threatens us, sin & death)
C. His message is enlightening (v.20)
(He is fully aware/in charge of His church)
(the symbolism represents our substantive presence)
IV. Conclusion
Prayer
The Lord’s Supper I Corinthians 11:23-26
Benediction/Jude v.24-25

The Revelation of Jesus Christ 4-13-25
Part 1 – Revelation 1:1-8 “Introduction”
Intro: As we celebrate Palm Sunday today and Easter Sunday next week, there are two parallels for us to consider as we begin.
1. Palm Sunday-the revealing of the King to the people while riding in to shouts of “Hosanna!”…and then in our study the revealing of the King to John/us.
2. Easter Sunday-the revealing of the risen King to the people…and then in our study the revealing of the glorified Risen King of Kings to John/us.
Let’s take a look at how it all begins:
READ verses 1-8
I. The Outline of the Book
(a divinely given framework to understand-1:19)
A. Chapter 1-“Things you have seen”
(current moment for John)
B. Chapters 2-3-“Things which are”
(current churches and current application for us)
C. Chapters 4-22-“Things which will take place”
(future events)
II. Revealed Clarity and Confidence (v.1-2)
(apokalypsis-secular term, an “unveiling” or “disclosure”)
(not specifically an ending like we often use it today)
A. The unveiling of Jesus-clarity
(clarity about His current status, plans etc.)
(without the Revelation we wouldn’t really know these specifics)
B. The unveiling of information-confidence
(confidence about the final ending)
(confidence about the daily record keeping/judgment concerning eveything)
(again, without which we wouldn’t really know these specifics)
III. A Promised Blessing (v.3)
A. A blessing for those who read/hear
(“supreme contentment” same as Mathew 5:3-11)
B. A blessing for those who keep the words
(the “ballasting” effect of His truth abiding in us)
IV. The Tone of Grace and Peace (v.4-6)
A. We are redeemed with His own blood (v.5)
(He chose to love us and redeem us)
B. We are a kingdom of priests (v.6)
(He has given us direct access to Him)
V. The Transcendence of the Almighty (v.4-8)
A. He is outside of time/description (timeless)
(Alpha/Omega, The Great “I AM” Ex. 3:14)
B. He is the faithful witness of all things (v.5)
(we don’t trust a “creed”, we trust Him)
C. He is in authority over death, kings etc. (v.5)
(final judge, and will have final say)
VI. Conclusion
Discussion: What are your thoughts on the point of “clarity and confidence” (Point II)?
